100 фразовых глаголов, без которых не понять сериалы

Смотришь сериал в оригинале, каждое слово вроде знакомо — а смысл ускользает. Знакомая ситуация? Причина почти всегда одна: фразовые глаголы. Именно они составляют костяк живой разговорной речи, и именно их не дают на первых уровнях. Ниже — 100 фразовых глаголов английского языка, которые встречаются в сериалах постоянно, с переводом, примером и цитатой из конкретной сцены. В конце — упражнения для тренировки.

Цитаты приведены по памяти, близко к репликам персонажей: смысл и употребление глагола в них переданы точно, но дословная точность реплики может отличаться от финальной версии озвучки. Это нормальная практика для учебных материалов, но если вы публикуете у себя дословные цитаты как официальные — лучше сверить по субтитрам к эпизоду.

Почему фразовые глаголы — это ключ к сериалам

Фразовый глагол (phrasal verb) — это глагол плюс предлог или наречие, и вместе они образуют новое значение. Иногда логичное: stand up — вставать. Иногда неожиданное: put up with — мириться. А порой одно и то же сочетание меняет смысл в зависимости от контекста.

В повседневной англоязычной речи фразовые глаголы встречаются едва ли не в каждом втором предложении. В учебниках их дают дозированно, а в сериалах вроде «Friends», «Sherlock» или «Modern Family» они сыплются один за другим. Отсюда и эффект: понимаешь отдельные слова, но теряешь нить диалога.

Учить весь массив не нужно. Есть ядро примерно из сотни единиц, покрывающее большую часть разговорных ситуаций. Именно его мы и разобрали.

Возьмите 10 глаголов за раз, не больше.
Проговорите каждый вслух в своём предложении — не в учебном, а в ситуации из вашей жизни.
Найдите их в любимом сериале: включите серию с субтитрами и слушайте.
Возвращайтесь к пройденному через день и через неделю.
