Washington is the place where the key political buildings in the US are situated. The White House is the official residence of all presidents of the USA. The only president who never lived there is George Washington, the first president, because at the time of his presidency the White House was not built yet. The White House is the oldest public building in Washington, D.C., and has the most famous address in the USA – 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It consists of 132 rooms. Visitors may tour some of the first-floor rooms; the second floor is “home” for the president and his family.
The Capitol is the place where laws are made. American Senate's sittings take place there. It is the tallest building in the capital. There will never be any skyscrapers built in this city, because the Capitol should always remain the tallest building there. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden.
There are a lot of historical monuments and places of interest in Washington. The Washington Monument was built in honor of George Washington. It is 555 feet tall and provides a panoramic view of Washington, D.C. via elevator.

The history of flight from the first plane flown by the Wright brothers to the Apollo space ship can be seen in the National Air and Space Museum (the NASA museum).
